Remi Okunlola is Chairman & Group Chief Executive, Lagasa Group, Nigeria’s foremost indigenous full life cycle offshore services group.
As Chairman & Group Chief Executive of the Group, Remi chairs the board of a number of complementary oil & energy service companies, including Scorpion Management, a preventive maintenance management and audit firm; Berenger Drilling, a rig operations and maintenance firm; HS Ocean WA, a rig inspection, repair and maintenance firm; Caracal Oil & Gas, a specialist offshore marine vessel supply company; Standard Oilfields, an oil equipment supply and rental firm; Offshore Manpower Services, a recruiter of technical and operational manpower; and Lagasa Food & Beverages, a remote and stranded location catering company.
To assure world class safety and operational standards, LagasaGroup has entered into partnerships with diverse top of their class international technical service providers, with proven track and reputation internationally, and with interest in operating in Nigeria and West Africa. The object is to develop an indigenous company fit to compete internationally.
Berenger Drilling has established an offshore drilling joint venture with the international offshore drilling company, Vantage Drilling and they are together acquiring the drillship, Cobalt Explorer for deployment to Nigeria; Norway based Daya Offshore Construction provides world class assets and services in support of Caracal Offshore’s marine construction and subsea services; and HS Ocean brings its world class Inspection, Repair & Maintenance competency and experience to the benefit of our locally domiciled IRM business of a similar name.
Prior to establishing the LagasaGroup, Remi was protem chief executive of SeaWolf Oilfields, Africa’s first indigenous offshore drilling company, which he co-founded and co-managed. SeaWolf provided drilling services to Total Exploration, Addax Petroleum and Conoil Producing.
For over a decade, prior to entering the real sector, Remi advised on some of Nigeria’s most internationally regarded deals in this reputed ‘Lion on the move’. As founding partner of Perchstone & Graeys, a top Lagos commercial law firm, Remi advised on the award winning Nigeria LNG financing transaction, the Brass LNG project, and navigated the entry into Nigeria, among others, of CNOOC, ONGC and BSGE.
Remi is a keen supporter and promoter of the arts, and has given immensely over the years to causes affecting Nigeria’s under-appreciated purveyors of arts and crafts, including Nigeria’s thespian and indigenous music communities. Remi is passionate about a number of other causes, and is particularly proud of his work as member of the governing council of the Bloom Cancer Care and Support Centre; as founder of the Kufremi Trust, a rescue and rehabilitation centre for child victims of traditional practises; as chairman of the Board of Trustees of ROPES, which sponsors highly gifted indigent children through school; and as founder of FRU, the Free Representation Unit, which assists indigent victims of miscarriage of justice.
